Lectures of the Craft

Lectures of the Craft

Individual study

In addition to attending the meetings of his Craft Lodge, it falls to each Brother to develop his knowledge and understanding of the history, principles and teachings of Freemasonry though individual learning, and by studying the traditional Lectures of the Craft.

Teachings

The 'Lectures of the three Degrees in Craft Masonry' aim to illustrate and explain the Craft Degrees. They are arranged in the form of catechisms (as questions and answers). This is how Brethren were instructed in Freemasonry before printed rituals appeared, although over time the Lectures ceased to be worked in the Lodges.

Organisation

The United Grand Lodge of England, as governing body of the Craft Degrees, does not formally recognise or endorse any printed text of the Lectures as the only official one, and has never given its imprimatur to any such. Several printed versions of the Lectures are available in various editions from different publishers. They can be obtained through the established suppliers of Masonic regalia.
